 | Don't Miss this Month's Seminar on:
Food Sensitivities - How can you test for them and how do you treat them? |
Just
like the immune system can over-react to environmental allergens, it
can also be unduly triggered by the foods that we eat. Although some
people with food allergies can react with hives and anaphylaxis (an
immunoglobulin E reaction), many people can react with another part of
their immune system (immunoglobulin G, IgG), which also produces harmful
burdens on the body.
When a food causes an IgG reaction, it is often called food sensitivity.
Symptoms of food sensitivity include fatigue, eczema, constipation,
diarrhea, difficulty focusing, irritability, and the list goes on.
The
specific type of food that is causing a problem is often a difficult
thing to discover for several reasons. Many food-induced symptoms are
delayed (for as long as a couple days). There may also be a cumulative
effect, where a person can cope with a small about of one allergen, but
the combination of two foods to which they are sensitive triggers
symptoms, or just the shear volume of one allergen sets off the
reaction.
It takes a toll when your body is in a constant state of immune reactivity.
Identifying and eliminating food allergens is an important step towards optimal health.
If you think you suffer from undiagnosed food allergies or
sensitivities, Lakeside Natural Health offers allergy testing services
to identify and pinpoint triggers. Contact us today to make an appointment.
Lakeside is also pleased to present a free seminar on this popular topic. Sign up today!
When: Wednesday, September 29th, 2010 Time: 7:00pm Contact the clinic NOW! to reserve your spot. Seating is limited! Check out the side panel for a complete list of
upcoming seminars for the whole year |

The Hidden Truth about MSG | | Most
of us already know that MSG is a toxic substance for our bodies,
but many of us don't realize why it is so harmful and how to avoid
it.
Glutamate is a naturally occurring amino acid used as
building proteins in the body, and it also functions as excitatory
neurotransmitters. When it is present in excessive
amounts it stimulates (excites) nerve cells until they
die.
The developing brains of children are extremely susceptible to the
effects of these excitotoxins. Their blood-brain barrier is less
developed and can more easily be crossed. This excitotoxin
affect the development of the nervous system and may be seen as learning
and emotional difficulties (ADD/ADHD/Autism), and/or hormonal
problems.
Furthermore, excitoxins can aggravate and possibly precipitate many
neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, ALS,
and Huntington's. These excitotoxins can cause an even higher risk
if you have ever had a stroke, hypertension, or diabetes.
What can we do to protect ourselves and our children?
MSG is hidden in so many foods and do not nessarily use the words "MSG" or "Monosodium Glutamate" on the ingredient list.
It can be disguised as:
autolyzed plant protein
autolyzed yeast
calcium caseinate
hydrolyzed plant protein
hydrolyzed vegetable protein
natural flavour/flavouring
sodium caseinate
"seasoning"
textured protein
vegetable protein extract
yeast extract
yeast food
If a food is labeled as "low fat" it almost certainly contains MSG in some form for flavour.
2. Minimize consumption of processed foods - canned, boxed, bagged, and frozen. It's your best defense against avoiding this toxic substance.
3. Minimize restaurant foods, not just
Chinese. They may not add MSG, but it is often present in foods
that come prepared/pre-seasoned to the restaurant. Many restaurant
workers don't even know that they are serving MSG so there's no point
in asking!
