  • 1/4 cup agave nectar
  • 2 tsp vanilla, divided
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon, divided
  • pinch of sea salt
  • 1/2 cup raw almonds

We want everyone to have a Fighting Chance this season! - Don't forget to get your safe and effective Immnue Boosting Injection from one of our naturoapthic doctors

Fall is here, and with it comes the advent of cold and flu season. There is a lot of talk in the media - and among healthcare professionals - about the pandemic strains of the flu. It is important to have general immune defense during the fall and winter months for protection from all strains of the flu as well as the common cold

Lakeside is again offering our very safe and effective naturoapthic flu shot this season.

Here's what we recommend:

If you're generally healthy - you should get 2 shots spread out through the season to have long-term protection

If you are in need of a little more immune support beacuse you have a tendancy to get more than your fair share of illnesses - you should get a monthly or bi-weekly injection

 Just the shot - $25
As part of your visit - $18

Meet Lydia
NEW! Osteopathy at Lakeside

We are very excited to Lydia as the newest member of the LNHC team. Lydia is an Osteopathic Manual Practitioner and a Certified Athletic Therapist since 1996. She has been the Head Athletic Therapist at the Humber College Sports Injuries Clinic since October 2003 until this year when she resigned from her position to open her own practice of Osteopathy.

How can Osteopathy help you?
Osteopathy is a therapeutic philosophy where the practitioner using palpitory skills will identify restrictions throughout the body. These restrictions may cause discomfort, pain and/or biomechanical changes. After the practitioner takes a comprehensive history, they will examine posture, spine, musculoskeletal and neurological health. The practioner will then attempt to release these restrictions with gentle hands-on techniques. You will see changes in pain level, mobility and vitality of tissue.

Welcome to the team, Lydia!

Welcome Diana Poirier, Our New Holistic Nutritionist and Reiki Therapist!
Diana Poirier

Diana Poirier is a holistic nutritionist & health consultant, helping clients improve their health and wellbeing through nutrition and lifestyle changes.  Diana's philosophy is to help clients "learn to live life with health... one step at a time".

Diana provides guidance in all areas of nutrition & health, including diet changes for chronic health conditions, nutrition for weight loss or gain, stress reducing techniques, increased activity & fitness, improved digestion, food shopping, cooking & recipe searching.    Diana helps people understand what their body needs to be healthy.  She explains things - how the body works, what it needs in terms of nutrition, rest, exercise, etc. and how diet & lifestyle can make dramatic differences with our health.  She provides clients with specific recommendations tailored to their needs, then follows up with continuous coaching & support in the form that works best for that client.

In addition to providing nutrition and health services, Diana is also a reiki practitioner.  Reiki originates from Japan, and is an energy-based healing technique involving light touch.  Working as a support mechanism to the body, Reiki re-establishes a normal energy flow of ki (life force energy) throughout the body, which in turn can enhance and accelerate the body's innate healing ability.  Reiki can be extremely beneficial with chronic stress & anxiety, fatigue, chronic pain including headaches & arthritis, emotional issues, sleep distrubances, energy imbalances and more.

Welcome to the team, Diana!
Don't Underestimate these 4 Important Immune Boosting Tips

Tip 1 Get Plenty of Sleep

Researchers from Carnegie Mellon University reported that those who sleep less than seven hours per night are approximately 3x times more susceptible to catching the common cold versus those who get adequate rest. Rest is essential for proper immune function.

Tip 2 Eat adequate protein
Protein is used as the building blocks to make immune cells that fight infection and to encourage tissue healing. Good protein sources include eggs, chicken, turkey, fish, fermented tofu, beans, seeds, nuts, and protein powders.

Tip 3 Manage your stress
Stress causes an increase in the stress hormone, cortisol. Cortisol inhibits immune function if chronically elevated. This hormone is the reason why we tend to get sick after exams or once we finally go on vacation. Manage stress with exercise, yoga, meditation or other activities that nourish your soul. Blood sugar balance is vital. Remember that skipping a meal is a physical stress on your body so eat at least every 3 to 4 hours.

Tip 4 Wash your hands
Wash your hands frequently, and avoid touching your hands to your face when in public to reduce your risk of contracting a viral infection.
